Day 8: His Whisper
The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.
1 Kings 19:11-13
What I like about this passage is that it speaks on the presence of the Lord and uses examples of how God did appear before people in the Old Testament, but the Lord did not come in that way to Elijah. The way the Lord’s presence came, was in a “gentle whisper”. I think that in today’s times, we want to see God move in big and mighty ways. We certainly want to see God move in a big way in this time of uncertainty. But we may miss His gentle whisper in the disruption and chaos of worlds colliding at home. Spending more time together as families and in the things we need to accomplish either in school or work and missing out on hearing God’s voice. His presence is with us at all times, but may we hear His whisper when we intentionally slow down and be still.

Prayer and or Action Steps:
- Pray "God, I lay down my expectations in where I sense your presence. Redefine how I recognize You. Speak to my heart in the midst of uncertainty and cast away my anxious thoughts. May your love overflow on me and may I rest in the gentleness of your whispers to me today."
- Take a “time out”. You may have to teach yourself and teach those in your household to slow down and be still. Set a timer for 5 minutes to be still and quiet.
- After practicing, take longer periods of time in practicing silence and stillness. What is God saying to you in those moments? Do you hear His whisper?
- Listen to, "At Your Whisper"
- Listen to, "Whisper"
