Day 21 God is Coming King

Day 21: God is Coming King

And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come... Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. - Matthew 24:14,42

It is a fact of history as recorded in the Bible that Jesus’ first followers eagerly anticipated that He would restore God’s Kingdom and He would become their king (see Acts 1:6). It’s easy for us in hindsight to conclude that they were mistaken and misunderstood Jesus’ mission... but did they? Or were they just too eager for God to bring the injustice and imperfection of this world to an end? God will bring an end to this world. That is a promise in Scripture. And He is now patiently and graciously delaying that end to allow all who would receive His gift of salvation to enter into His Kingdom. So are we committed to fulfilling His purpose in us to spread His message of hope and salvation in Jesus? Or have we gotten so distracted by the things of this world that we’ve even lost our eagerness for His kingdom and the return of our coming King?

Suggested Guided Prayer Times:
  • Father God, show me where I have become distracted by the cares and concerns of this world so that I do not look forward to Your coming Kingdom with eagerness.
  • Lord Jesus, show me where I have lost sight of Your purpose and mission for my life in sharing the good news of Your salvation with a lost and hurting world.
  • Praise the Lord in response to His raising your awareness of and eagerness for His coming Kingdom!

Action Steps:
  • Repent for the ways you've become distracted by the cares and concerns of this world.
  • Pray and ask God to show you your next steps in making a difference by becoming a person of influence to others in your life, pointing them to Jesus.
  • Contemplate: If Jesus came back today, what would you have the hardest time leaving behind? If it isn’t those who do not yet know Jesus as their Savior, ask Him to correct your attitude and priorities.
