Day 4 God is Transcendent
Day 4: God is Transcendent
“‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your
thoughts.” - Isaiah 55:8-9
Transcendent is a big word to describe a big God. Throughout the Bible, God has shown Himself to be near and relatable to His people. However, He is also other worldly and outside our human boxes/concepts. To worship the Lord for who He is is also being aware of this wildly beautiful and wondrous side of Him. This is what Transcendence means as it describes God: "Transcendence refers to the fact that God is unlike any other being in our experience and so no analogy or comparison can come close to perfectly describing Him.“ (blueletterbible.org)

Suggested Guided Prayer Focuses:
- God, I recognize that You are a BIG God (pause). I recognize that Your ways are not my ways and that Your thoughts are not my thoughts. I praise You today because You are beyond my wildest expectations.
- Lord, show me the ways You are transcendent (Pause, listen and reflect on the ways God has been transcendent in your life. Also, look throughout the Bible and find ways God has been outside of the box in the lives of His people. Write down these answers in a journal or your phone).
- In response to what He's shown you, take these answers and praise and thank Him in prayer.
Action Steps:
- Repent for the ways you've limited God to the boxes of your expectations. Ask the Lord to show you where you've limited Him in your life and ask Him to be himself in your relationship with Him.
- Schedule 1-2 five minute breaks in your day to think or "chew” on this quality of God.
- Close your eyes and listen to the spontaneous worship song “Wonder,” by Amanda Cook.
